Example designs

VirtuCath opens on a plain 6 Fr polymer tube. The example designs are complete shafts at real scales, one per construction, meant to be opened, built, and taken apart. File > Open Example lists them; each loads exactly as a saved design does and lands on Review & Build.

The examples are named for what they are, a braided shaft, a coil-reinforced microcatheter, a steerable sheath, and their size, not for a procedure. They are simulated designs written for the app, not measured devices, and their dimensions are typical of their construction rather than any one product.

DesignSize and modeLengthConstruction
Braided Microcatheter 0170.017 in ID, Fixed ID1500 mmFour sections whose OD steps down as the wall thins: a braided proximal shaft at 2.4 Fr (.0005 in x .0025 in stainless braid, PEBAX 7233), a Nitinol coil at 2.0 Fr and then 1.7 Fr under softer PEBAX, and a plain 1.7 Fr tip. Two platinum/iridium marker bands, at the tip and 30 mm back. Not steerable.
Large-Lumen Braided Shaft 6 Fr0.070 in ID, Fixed ID1300 mmA thin-walled shaft, wall about 0.0055 in and OD about 0.081 in: stainless braid on the proximal 900 mm, braid over a Nitinol coil through the middle, coil alone toward the end, and a soft PEBAX 2533 tip, the jacket softening from PEBAX 7233 down. One tip marker band. Not steerable.
Bidirectional Steerable Sheath 9 Fr3.0 mm ID, Fixed ID710 mmTwo 0.010 in stainless pull wires in PTFE-lined lumens under a 32-carrier braid, anchored at the end of a 60 mm flexible section, a 2 mm 304V pull ring ordered as 10UT hypotube, and a soft tip. OD about 4.2 mm. One tip marker band.
Steerable 10 Fr 4-Way1.524 mm ID, Fixed ID620 mmThe design VirtuCath used to open on: a braided proximal and flexible section with four 0.009 in stainless pull wires in PTFE-lined lumens anchored at the end of the flexible section, a 2 mm 304V pull ring ordered as 15XT hypotube, and a soft unreinforced tip. The one to open first for steering.
Multi-Lumen Extrusion 7 Fr 3-Lumen2.13 mm core, Multi-Lumen Core200 mmA polyurethane extrusion with one round lumen and two crescents (the Round + Crescent template split in two), no reinforcement, and a thin skin of the same polymer as its only wall layer. OD 2.33 mm. The one to open for the Core Profile step and the EIx / EIy readouts.
Braided Introducer Sheath 18 Fr6.0 mm ID, Fixed ID650 mmA long sheath: PTFE liner, .002 in x .008 in stainless braid on 32 carriers, PEBAX 7233 jacket, an unreinforced 30 mm tip and a tip marker band. Wall about 0.020 in, OD about 7.0 mm. Not steerable.

What they are good for

  • Seeing the loop end to end. Open the 10 Fr steerable, click Build, and drive it on the Steering Simulation tab. The 9 Fr sheath does the same with two wires at a larger size.
  • A starting point at your scale. Open the one nearest your device, then edit. A loaded design is entirely yours: nothing in it follows the diameter, and anything that stops fitting after a change is reported on the page you are editing rather than changed for you.
  • A stepped shaft. The microcatheter's sections carry different walls on the same bore, so its OD steps from proximal to tip; the section bar and the drawing show the steps.
  • A shaped core. The multi-lumen extrusion opens on the Core Profile step with its template and dimensions filled in.
  • Checking the defaults against a real stack. Start from the plain tube at an example's diameter, add the same kind of layers, and compare what the wizard fills in with what the example carries.

Adding your own

Any design saved with File > Save Config into the Catheter Files\Examples folder of the installation appears in the menu on its next opening, named after the file. Set Config as Default does something different: it makes a design the one VirtuCath opens on, in place of the plain tube.
